IMPORTANT ORDERING INFORMATION!!!
Mulberry Farms has been providing quality feeder insects for reptiles and amphibians for many years, and are now expanding to include the poultry market as well. Having our own poultry has taught us just how valuable including nutritious insects along with their regular food is to help keeping birds healthy. If you have any questions before ordering, feel free to email us at admin@mulberryfarms.com.
If you are new to purchasing Crickets, Superworms or Mealworms for your poultry, the following information will help you purchase what you need.
CRICKETS. If you are going to feed them all to to your birds within a week you can get by without buying a cricket waterer we offer.* You will however need to feed your crickets carrots or raw potatoes for them to get the moisture they need. Since you already have poultry, you can feed the crickets poultry dry mash as their main food. You will need a plastic container that is at least 18" x 18" x 18" to house the crickets. Raise at room temp (70-75 degrees).
Cricket Size Recommendations:
2 week crickets - for tiny, newly hatched poultry such as quail.
3 week crickets - for poultry the size of newly hatched chickens or turkeys.
4 week crickets - for poultry the size of an adult quail.
5 or 6 week crickets - for poultry the size of an adult chicken or larger.
*For longer storage you can purchase one of our cricket waterers (with donut sponge or plastic ring insert, as appropriate for the size of your crickets); you will also need the cricket waterer stand for your crickets to be able to get to the water as they cannot climb the plastic bottom of the cricket waterer.
SUPERWORMS. You will need a container like a brownie pan or larger. (An uncovered plastic tote type container you can purchase at wal-mart or target will work well.) Superworms, like crickets, will need carrots or potatoes for moisture, and their main substrate should be wheat bran (available on our website) or oatmeal. They have a shelf life of a month or two. Raise at room temp (70-75 degrees).
Superworm Size Recommendations:
Micro superworms - for tiny, newly hatched poultry like quail.
Small superworms - for poultry the size of newly hatched chickens or turkeys.
Medium superworms - for poultry the size of an adult quail.
Large superworms - for poultry the size of an adult chicken or turkey.
MEALWORMS. Similar to superworms but not nearly as active (and need to be kept cool). Mealworms should be stored in a substrate of bran or oatmeal, like superworms, and will also need a piece of carrot or potato for moisture. Mealworms can be refrigerated, but we recommend they be stored at approx. 45-55 degrees.
Mealworms Size Recommendations:
Regular Mealworms - for poultry the size of an adult quail.
Giant Mealworms - for poultry the size of an adult chicken or larger.
